DIY body & face coffee scrubs!

Jessica Lee Van Staden

We all have those horrible, unwanted dimples, it happens to the best of us - yes, even models and celebs aren't immune. Not only is coffee scrub or a mask containing the magic beans really good for cellulite, but it has other benefits too.

Caffeine tightens and provides antioxidants to the skin when applied topically. When applied religiously, it has been shown to reduce the appearance of cellulite. So combining coffee beans with other beneficial products for your skin that has moisturizing and skin soothing properties - it makes the perfect combo!

What you'll need to create a body scrub :

1 c coffee grounds

6 tbsp coconut oil

3 tbsp sea salt or sugar

Empty jar

Firstly, melt the coconut oil in a small bowl in the microwave.

Then, once you have gathered everything you need, measure out the dry ingredients and combine it in a large measuring cup or bowl. Mix it well.

Transfer the ingredients into the container you will be storing it in. And there you go, you've just made a body scrub in 5min.

Sea salt is better to use for a body exfoliation scrub as it is not as sensitive as the skin on your neck, chest or face.

In the shower, apply your scrub to your whole body, focus on the areas with cellulite. Massage the scrub onto skin in a circular motion before rinsing. Repeat maximum twice a week.

Adding coffee into your every other morning face mask will rejuvenate and keep your skin glowing all day long. It’s loaded with antioxidants, which help to eliminate toxins from your skin.

What you will need :

2 tablespoons freshly ground coffee (or used grinds)
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
3 tablespoons whole milk,  heavy cream, or yogurt
1 tablespoon honey

Mix all ingredients together and apply a light coat to face. Let sit for about 15 minutes. Remove with warm wash cloth.

We all need a good exfoliator, so why not choose one with natural properties to buff all those pesky lines and dry skin? A coffee scrub will help to eliminate dead skin while working with your body’s natural renewal process to produce new skin cells, which creates the glowing effect everyone wants.

What you'll need for your scrub :

3 tablespoons coffee grounds (new, if possible)
1 tablespoon natural oil of your choice: Olive, grape seed, coconut, or almond
1 tablespoon brown sugar

Mix all dry ingredients, then add oil. Based on the kind of scrub consistency you want, add more or less brown sugar. Massage onto your face in gentle, circular motions, then rinse with warm water.

This hair treatment is phenomenal, it will renew your hair and bring it to a shiny, healthy state. Additionally, the disease fighting antioxidants found in coffee can work for stronger hair follicles that help with hair growth.

Prepare strong coffee, then add a bit of water. Let it cool until the mixture is luke warm. Standing in the tub, pour the liquid onto your hair and scalp, then put your hair in a plastic shower cap. Sit for 20 minutes. Wash out with warm water. Then shampoo and condition as usual.

1. Aromatherapy - Coffee's amazing scent clears the mind of excessive thought, it can work as an anti-depressant and it can help cure nausea.

2. Antioxidant - Neutralizes the effect of free radicals and can help prevent the effect of premature aging.

3. Exfoliates - It removes dead skin cells, and gives you smoother looking skin.

4. Blood flow - The caffeine found in coffee increases blood flow and reduce the appearance of cellulite.

5. Skin texture - Caffeine works to make blood vessels tighter and firmer very quickly, this results into skin appearing firmer.
